In the Middle Ages, the Chatelaine was the commander of the castle. The feminine form, Chatelaine was the woman who supervised its daily function and kept the keys. She was often in charge of hospitality to any guests. We use the term Chatelaine to refer to the officer who assists newcomers in our society to find what interests them and to settle in. They also loan costumes and gear as needed. Sometimes the term Hospitaller is used instead of Chatelaine. Lord Ian "Tannin" de Northwode.
