Greetings, Great and Noble Middle Kingdom,
I hope everyone has made it home safe from Pennsic or wherever you may have traveled. Pennsic was a wonderful time as always. It was great catching up with old friends and meeting new friends. I love that we are such a varied Society, with so many different cultures, but with a shared love of the Middle Ages. I feel privileged in my role to help those in need and support our great Kingdom. The Seneschal’s doors are always open and we are happy to help, we work hard at our jobs so others can enjoy their time in the SCA.
We are also getting close to a guide for the Kingdom event rotation. Dame Sara Hasenkamp and her team are working diligently on this she has shared her progress:
“Having heard the concerns of the Kingdom regarding how Kingdom Event bids are selected, a focus group was formed to examine existing policy and suggest updates to Curia. A new policy and procedure manual will be released which allows for submitted bids for Crown Tournament and RUM events to be assigned an order of preference for Curia acceptance/approval based on how often a region has held said event in the past five years. “The new policy also outlines plans for further transparency regarding accepted bids. We hope to submit Kingdom Law changes as well as the policy manual by the next Pale issue.”
Please contact myself, the Dragon Herald or my First Deputy Dame Sara via email with any comments or feedback.
The Seneschals office has 3 open positions, please consider service to your Kingdom in one of the following roles:
- North Oaken Regional Seneschal
- Pentamere Regional Seneschal
- Kingdom Social Media Officer
If you are interested in learning more about any of these positions, please reach out to me or to the current officer.
The Order of the Silver Oak and the Order of the Willow will be renamed as the Award of the Silver Oak and the Award of the Willow. There will be no change in precedence. This will allow individuals to be recognized in multiple disciplines.
We are also working on new combat awards to better reflect the distinctions between skill and
leadership in the combat disciplines. We are working on wording and will also get them out for
populace comment in the next addition of the Pale.
I wish you all safe travels.
In service and friendship,
Duchess Arabella Silvermane, OP
Seneschal of the Middle Kingdom
