How to help us make the Kingdom Website better.

We frequently hear the complaint “I don’t like the website.” from people in the Midrealm. But when pressed for details it is often a vague dislike that is difficult to solve. This weekend for example we finally managed to solve the “I can’t see a list of events.” complaint as regards the calendar. When we built the calendar, we included a page with a list of events and we couldn’t understand what the problem was. It turned out that the problem was “On the front/splash page of the Midrealm website I see only a month view of the calendar and not a list view.” Once we understood what the ACTUAL problem was we fixed it. The front page of the Midrealm website now has a month view, a list view AND a link to the FULL calendar view that we were looking at.

This was a very quick and easy fix once we had the specifics!

Why is this important?

Because as experienced technology users we use the website in certain ways, these may NOT be the way that you are used to interacting with technology. We also don’t want our way to be the ONLY way to use the website. However, if we don’t know where people are having difficulties, then we won’t be able to address the problem.

So here is where you can help. Help us to crowd source improvements so that you can find the things you are looking for. The best way for you to do this is to give us:

1) a detailed explanation of what exactly are you looking for and why can’t you seem to find it.
2) include screenshots of each step in your process so that we can see what you are talking about (a picture speaks a thousand words)
3) a general recommendation for remediation. A good format to following is: “this is why what I’m doing now is difficult, this is how I’d like my future workflow to look like.”  Ex: Right now I have to go to multiple locations on the site to find out information about all the officers, which is difficult when I’m at an event and using my phone to navigate. I’d like to be able to see all their names on a single screen.
4)send all of the above information to the MK Helpdesk at [email protected].

We want to make the website usable for all, whether on your phone or computer and only by specific and actionable information is this possible. We can’t promise that we’ll be able to fix everything – there are limitations due to the tools we’re using – but we’re here to help where we can.
