Newcomer Portal

Welcome to the Kingdom of the Middle!

Often called the “Midrealm,” we are a Midwestern branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), an international organization dedicated to researching and recreating the best elements of the pre-1600 world.

Whatever the reason you came today—a deep love of history, roleplaying games, interest in historical reenactment, LARPing, cosplay, Game of Thrones, HEMA or something else—we’re glad you’re here!

Getting Started

If you’re brand new to the SCA there’s two easy ways to learn more about our hobby:

  • Use the Kingdom Map or the zip code look-up tool to find a group close to you. Once you are directed to the local group’s website, look up the time and place of a meeting—you can just show up anytime. You’ll find people in the SCA are very welcoming and love to talk about their medieval interests! If you want more information ahead of time, look for the “chatelaine” (aka the welcome wagon) or the “seneschal” (the president of the local group) under the officers listing. Either can answer any questions you might have.
  • You can also join the “Midrealm Newcomers” group on Facebook. This is a closed group designed specifically to answer questions and help new folks get involved.

Finally, you can download our brochure “Forward into the Past” (PDF) which has lots of great information about what we do and how our organization works.

Welcome to the modern Middle Ages!
